When their clients relocated from the Windy City to Nashville's coveted Belle Meade neighborhood, Betsy and Lauren took on a challenge more delicate than many: reconciling two very different aesthetic points of view under one roof. The husband gravitates toward nature, dark tones, natural materials, and a subtle Asian influence. The wife loves Dorothy Draper, bold color and pattern, and rooms that feel light, bright, and happy. Modern Remains was tasked to balance both without erasing either, so the finished home would feel cohesive and, above all, like them.

Working with celebrated architect Kevin Coffey and Catalyst Builders, Betsy and Lauren delivered a neoclassical custom home with a transitional exterior and a modern, open floor plan. The 8,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bath residence features a gym with a climbing wall, pool, hot tub, and guest cottage. Details throughout speak to the family who lives there: a galley kitchen sink with two faucets, a sixteen-foot island built for entertaining, and layered spaces. The spaces hold the husband’s, a prominent financial advisor, fossil and fine art collection alongside the wife’s, a Visa executive, love of color, pattern, and wallpaper.
